Engineering Carbon to Undiscovered Heights (or Depths): DOXA’s New SUB 300 Carbon Whitepearl

The pro-diver-preferred watchmaker takes a deeper, darker plunge with a new forged carbon case that ups the ante in terms of both eye-appeal and diving technicality.

A fun fact not many people know about me: I’ve been a certified diver for most of my adult life. Currently, I carry a PADI Open Water Diver certificate, which allows me to dive to a depth of 60 feet (18 meters). But lately, I’m what you could classify more as a 20-to-30-feet-down, look-at-the-pretty-fish kind of diver.

Like many divers, my childhood obsession with Jacques Cousteau served as my inspiration to go deep. And, while Captain Cousteau and the crew of the Calypso certainly had their own sense of style, they probably didn’t give it much thought as they basically invented the technology and science of modern undersea exploration. And, of course, they wore DOXA dive watches.

Fast-forward to 2022, and DOXA still lives at the intersection of unmatched diving technicality and colorful style. And with its new COSC-certified SUB 300 Carbon Whitepearl dive watch, recently unveiled during Watches & Wonders in Geneva, that message of elegance meets engineering goes to even deeper depths.

Diving With Pearls

Last year, the debut of the stunning SUB 200 Whitepearl set a high bar for the all-white, superbly functional tool watch. But elegance and engineering get a gorgeous push in the right direction with the new Whitepearl version of the SUB 300 Carbon.

Specifically, its forged carbon 42.5mm case (with a movement chamber and caseback in titanium) and forged carbon dual-purpose bezel add a new dose of lightweight durability, as well as some gorgeously random black and anthracite eye candy, which is unique to each case execution and further amplifies the black/white chromatic story of the popular dive watches.

Let There Be Light

To shed even more light on the subject: The entire dial (not only the hands and indices, as is the norm) is coated in brilliant green Super-LumiNova. Meanwhile, the hands and indices get a dose of complementary blue lume.

By night and by depth, the entire face of the watch glows for legibility (an essential feature for a dive watch). By day, the bright white dial pops stylishly off your wrist, with absolutely no discernible hint of the powerful lume that covers it. A heritage-inspired box crystal only serves to enhance the show, night or day. Plus, the entire package weighs a mere 87 grams. So you can dive light (and by night).

Then, once you get topside and stow your tanks, you have a decidedly handsome, technical-appeal piece of gear that creates a modern and stylish moment wherever you go after the boat docks.

Steadfast Style

As you would expect, the SUB 300 Carbon Whitepearl’s Sellita SW200-1 movement is COSC-certified and carries a 38-hour power reserve. Of course, it also features DOXA’s signature bezel, with an outer scale for tracking dive depth (in meters) and an inner scale for setting dive time (in minutes).

Finally, the bright white strap is crafted in durable FKM rubber and features a PVD-coated folding clasp and easily adjustable wet suit extension system. The watch is rated to 300 meters (about 980 feet) of water resistance, and with its vibrant white presentation and full-dial lume, even at the inkiest depths, this timepiece won’t leave you in the dark.
