DOXA Fans Rejoice With The Launch Of The SUB 600T In Stainless Steel

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait: DOXA Fans Rejoice With The Launch Of The SUB 600T In Stainless Steel

Following the successful limited-edition reboot of its 1980s classic SUB 600T earlier this year, DOXA has released a new, non-limited, stainless-steel version, available in the brand’s six emblematic colors.

During the summer, DOXA delighted its fans when it revived one of its classic dive watches from the 1980s, the SUB 600T, in the form of a 200-piece limited edition with a Pacific blue dial and strap and a natural titanium case. A faithful reinterpretation of the original’s design, looks, and functionality, the re-emerged SUB 600T proved a massive hit, selling out in less than three days, and leaving many wondering not if but when the Bienne-based brand would launch a non-limited version.

Well, Watchonista is pleased to inform you, dear reader, that your wait is over with today’s release of the DOXA SUB 600T in 316L stainless steel!

Available with a choice of steel or ceramic bezel insert, as well as a steel bracelet or FKM rubber strap, this non-limited edition can be snapped up in one of DOXA’s six emblematic colors – “Aquamarine” turquoise, “Divingstar” yellow, “Caribbean” navy blue, “Searambler” gray, “Sharkhunter” black, and “Professional” orange. And the bezel, strap, and color options mean there are no fewer than 24 possible total combinations from which DOXA lovers can choose.

A Watch that Screams the Eighties

The SUB 600T is a timepiece that screams the Eighties. But while that doesn’t mean you have to don a power suit, shoulder pad-clad blouses, or rock a mullet to wear it, that does mean the SUB 600T’s 40mm steel case eschews the curvy lines of DOXA’s 1960s dive watches. Instead, the new SUB 600T assumes an angular profile where straight sides and sharp lines are to the fore, enhanced by vertically brushed finishing.

As with the original, the SUB 600T’s crown is atypically located at 4 o’clock to free up room for wrist movement. The crown screws down, which helps provide a 600m water resistance, the same generous rating that lent the SUB 600T its name when it first came out.

Another carryover from the 1980s original is the unidirectional, notched bezel – a patented DOXA invention. This feature indicates no-stop dive time in minutes and depth in feet – for a safe ascent without decompression stops – and features an inlay in steel or, for a slightly higher price, black ceramic, except in the case of the “Caribbean” model where the ceramic insert is blue to match the dial.

An Iconic Dial Layout

With dial details and functions varying from model to model, the case and bezel design were the common denominator of the 1980s SUB 600T. For this SUB 600T reboot, DOXA has opted to replicate one of the more iconic SUB 600T layouts, with shark tooth indices at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock, in between which are pairs of circular markers.

Moreover, at 3 o’clock is a date window. This addition is not only faithful to the vintage dial configuration that inspired the indices, but it also distinguishes this non-limited run from the Pacific limited edition released earlier this year, which didn’t have any calendar function.

While the new SUB 600T is basically a one-to-one remake of the SUB 600 from four decades ago, one feature bringing it into the modern-day is the ever-reliable Swiss-made Sellita SW 200-1automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve. The deployment of Super-LumiNova to make the indices and hands readable in low-light conditions is another update.

Strap Options & Pricing

The SUB 600T is available with a tone-on-tone FKM rubber strap to match the dial color. It features DOXA’s new clasp that, despite resembling a pin buckle, is actually a folding buckle that allows for quick and easy adjustment.

Also available is DOXA’s new “three-row” bracelet in 316L stainless steel, a change from the brand’s usual “beads-of-rice” bracelet design and one that is in keeping with the Eighties’ vibe of the watch.

SUB 600T models with a stainless-steel bezel insert are priced at CHF 1,390 on a stainless-steel bracelet and CHF 1,350 on an FKM rubber strap, while models with a ceramic bezel insert are priced at CHF 1,490 when complemented by the bracelet and CHF 1,450 with the rubber strap.
